I absolutely love Texas small towns! You always meet the absolute nicest people, and there are so many fun stories and history behind the businesses and landmarks you find. Nestled in the heart of the Lone Star State, you’ll find the charming town of San Saba. Known for its picturesque beauty, historical buildings, and warm hospitality, San Saba offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It may not be the first town on your list when you think of a weekend getaway, but I’m about to share why it should be on your radar!
The Pecan Capital of Texas
San Saba is often referred to as the “Pecan Capital of the World,” and for good reason. This quaint town is surrounded by lush pecan orchards that produce some of the finest pecans in the country. A visit to San Saba wouldn’t be complete without indulging in the local pecan delights. Make sure to pick up some freshly roasted pecans or delectable pecan pies to take back home as souvenirs. There are a handful of shops around town where you can find a yummy, pecan treat, but definitely make sure you pop in Alamo Pecan Co. They had so many varieties of pecans, and free samples. My personal fave were the dark chocolate toffee pecans.

There's History Around Every Corner
San Saba boasts a rich historical heritage that can be explored through its charming downtown area. Take a leisurely stroll down Wallace Street, lined with beautifully restored buildings dating back to the late 1800s. Over the last decade, the town has made some great strides in revitalizing the old buildings, and beautifying their little community. Stop by the historic Dofflemyer Hotel, now transformed into a museum that showcases the town’s past. Learn about the Native American tribes, early settlers, and the fascinating stories of San Saba’s founders. Even better, stop and talk with Gale at the visitor’s center or any of the shop owners. They all have stories to tell about their town, and they’re eager to share!
Take It Outside
For nature enthusiasts, San Saba is a paradise waiting to be explored. The nearby Colorado River and San Saba River provide ample opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Pack a picnic and head to San Saba’s scenic parks. Mill Pond Park was beautiful, and if you’re in the mood for a swim, they also have a little, man-made beach where you can swim in the pond. San Saba Nature Park also has some beautiful trails if you’re looking for a little more of a hike.
Breakfast Options
We were pleasantly surprised by all of the dining options around town. For breakfast we tried Oliver & Co and the quiche was delicious! We also tried the breakfast tacos at Agave Jalisco, and we wished we would have been in town longer so we could have tried their dinner too! There are a handful of these around Texas, and we’ll be stopping the next time we spot one.
